Around Kirkstone Pass (Red Screes - Middle Dodd - Little Hart Crag - High Hartsop Dodd - Brothers Water - Grey Crag - Stony Cove Pike

A long day walk with two steep climbs and one other short easy scramble.

I walked from the car park at Kirkstone pass clockwise though might suggest walking from Hartsop to make it a more balanced walk.

Buttermere Round

Basic Route Map

The Buttermere Round is a stunning walk around the western end of the lake district with 3 enjoyable peaks and lots of temptation for future days.

After the initial climb, around an hour or so, the day afternoon is spent enjoying the easy ridge walk and the views across to Pillar and down into Ennerdale valley.

Over the course of the day you can see Pillar, Great Gable, Green Gable, KirkFell and Haystacks all of which are great walks in there own right.

Buttermere YHA offers cheap accommodation and the local pub serves a refreshing pint ideal way to end the days walk.

Walkers Campsites

Google Map of Campsites

Walkers campsites are set up for walkers and tend to offer minimal facilities with no fuss at low cost.

Wild camps are an awesome way to see the countryside and enjoy some amazing sunsets and sunrises as well as wild life and nature at its best all for free. However care must be taken to pitch tents late and strike camp early and like all good camping, there should be no sign you where ever there.

Best Route up Helvellyn

Google Route Map

This is a day walk and requires correct equipment and adequate experience due to exposure.

The edges are great fun but do require a cool head. Striding edge is particular exposed.

Only problem with this walk is the lack of a good pub in Glenridding however there is an excellent beer shop and the Star Inn at Pooley Bridge is just a short car ride away.
